Summary
Domaine Marc Colin is located in the small hamlet of Gamay in Saint-Aubin and is run by three siblings: Joseph, Caroline and Damien Colin. (Their older brother, Pierre-Yves, left the family domaine in 2005 to focus on his own domaine and négociant project, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey.) Joseph manages the vineyards and makes the wines, while Caroline and Damien oversee the business side of the domaine. The siblings have continued to raise the very high standards of quality that had been set by their father, Marc Colin.
Style & Vinification Techniques
The Marc Colin wines are reserved and focused, and Joseph Colin picks on the early side to preserve acidity and minerality. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed and are not settled prior to fermentation and aging in barrels. There is no bâtonnage during barrel-aging, which lasts 15 months, and the percentage of new oak has been reduced to a maximum of 15% for the premiers crus.
