Summary
Potel-Aviron is named after its two founders, Nicolas Potel (of Maison Nicolas Potel in Burgundy) and Stéphane Aviron. Stéphane, who is the current winemaker, had been involved in winemaking in Beaujolais with his family for a number of years prior to helping establish Potel-Aviron. He and Stéphane began their domaine with the aim to produce wines with more concentration and ageability than what had been considered typical for Beaujolais in the past. In addition to the below vineyard holdings, they rent parcels in six of the ten Crus as well as Beaujolais-Villages.
Style & Vinification Techniques
Wines are fermented traditionally without the use of carbonic maceration. All wines are aged in small oak barrels (depending on the vintage, up to 25% new) for 10 months. The wines are bottled without filtration.
