Summary

Paul-Vincent Avril is currently in charge of the Clos des Papes estate, which has been owned and operated by the Avril family since its inception in 1902. The Avrils were influential in the establishment of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC, and this is a well-regarded estate in the appellation. Paul-Vincent received training in Bordeaux, Burgundy and Australia, and he brought modern changes to the estate. Vineyards are trained for lower yields with green harvesting and judicious pruning techniques employed. The wines are known for their balance and elegance. Paul-Vincent forgoes the option to produce a single cuvée from his best vineyards, instead opting to make a single – and singular – red wine.

Style & Vinification Techniques

This traditional producer completely de-stems, though no new oak is used. Wines are aged for a year in old, large foudres before being pumped into tank to rest before bottling.
