Summary
Domaine les Cailloux was started by Lucien Brunel and his son, Andre. The Brunel family has been growing grapes in the region since the 18th Century, and the vineyards currently under the Les Cailloux umbrella were part of Lucien’s inheritance from his father. The vineyards are planted with mostly Grenache, including some vines that are over 100 years old. André Brunel worked for Jean-Luc Colombo in the 1980s and brought many modern winemaking practices to the estate at this time.
Style & Vinification Techniques
The estate uses a combination of traditional and modern techniques. Grapes are de-stemmed and see extended maceration times. The Grenache is aged in enamel-coated vats, while the Syrah and Mourvèdre are aged in small barrels ranging from one to three years old. Some of the Grenache for the Cuvée Centenaire is aged in small barrel as well.
