Summary
Matías Riccitelli was born into a winemaking family in Cafayate, Salta, his father Jorge a renowned winemaker for Bodega Norton. His family subsequently moved south to Mendoza, where Matías studied enology. After serving as winemaker at Fabre Montmayou and Bodega Norton, Matías established his eponymous label in 2009 in Las Compuertas, the highest area of Luján de Cuyo. His 20-hectare property boasts ungrafted old vines, a feature he looks for when sourcing fruit. Since 2015, Riccitelli has also crafted wines from old vines in Patagonia.
Style & Vinification Techniques
Riccitelli sources fruit from several old-vine vineyards in Mendoza and Patagonia. All harvesting is done by hand, after which Riccitelli ferments a combination of destemmed and whole-bunch fruit.
