Summary

Originally established under the name Paradale, the winery was purchased in 1996 and renamed Langmeil after the original village that occupied the area. Cousins Carl and Richard Lindner, together with their brother-in-law Chris Bitter, acquired and refurbished the winery and its 5ha vineyard in 1996.  The trio currently owns the winery and sons Paul Lindner and Tyson Bitter make the wines. In addition to various other old and more recent vineyard holdings, Langmeil possesses what many consider the oldest original Shiraz planting still surviving in Australia, dating from 1843.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Grapes are handpicked and destemmed before fermentation in open top fermenters. After pressing and secondary fermentation, wines are aged in new and used French and American oak barrels for one to two years, depending on wine and vintage. Wines are not fined and minimal (if any) filtering of the wines takes place before bottling.
