Summary

Il Poggione is one of the largest estates in Montalcino, originally part of Lavinio Franchesi’s Fattoria di Sant’Angelo in Colle, which was divided between family members in 1958 into Cal d’Orcia and Il Poggione. Siblings Leopoldo and Livia Franceschi now run the estate, marking the fifth generation of Franchesis to do so; father and son Fabio and Alessandro Bindocci look after the vineyards and winemaking. Diversified agriculture is encouraged at Il Poggione via alternating vines with other crops and allowing animals into the vineyards.

Style & Vinification Techniques

All grapes are hand-harvested. Fermentation is temperature-controlled and lasts around 20 days. Aging is in a variety of oak vessels as outlined above.
