Summary

Matilde Zecca and Achille Mazzocchi purchased Le Macioche in 1985, and the couple completed a restoration of the property and winery in 1988. They farm organically and include cover crops between rows. The wines are made by Maurizio Castelli, who was formerly chief enologist for the Chianti Classico Consorzio, having helped push for higher quality in that region in the 1980s. In addition to the wines below, the estate produces a Grappa di Brunello.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Le Macioche focuses on low yields and traditional methods. Wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled wooden vats, then aged in 40-hl oak vats. Sulfur additions are kept to a minimum.
