Summary

Antonio Moretti Cuseri of Tenuta Sette Ponti in Arezzo purchased the Poggio al Lupo estate in 1999. Poggio al Lupo, which translates as “hill of the wolf,” was established in an underdeveloped, isolated area of the Maremma. The south-facing vineyards are a patchwork of alluvial soils over Galestro planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Petit Verdot. The hill rises gently in elevation to about 100 meters above sea level, higher than much of the Tuscan coast. Poggio al Lupo releases an IGP wine and a traditional wine under the Morellino di Scansano DOCG.

Style & Vinification Techniques

The estate is farmed organically and harvest is completely manual. A cold-soak lasts for two or three weeks prior to fermentation, which is carried out in concrete.
