Summary

Mike and Angela Mulvey first planted Prophet’s Rock in the Bendigo subzone of Central Otago in 1999. During their tenure, they cultivated two vineyards, the original Bendigo Home Vineyard, and a second in Mount Pisa on the opposite side of Lake Dunstan. Since selling the property in 2013 to a group of New Zealand investors, Prophet’s Rock has lost the vineyard in Pisa in favor of Rocky Point, adjacent to the Home Vineyard. Winemaker Paul Pujol, who began his career at Seresin in Marlborough before spending several vintages in France, has been at the helm of production since 2005. In 2009, Pujol worked a harvest at Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé in Chambolle-Musigny, and he continues to collaborate with de Vogüé’s winemaker, François Millet, who has crafted Cuvée Aux Antipodes Pinot Noir at Prophet’s Rock since 2015.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Pujol’s vinification techniques are heavily influenced by his experiences abroad in Alsace and Burgundy. Cuvée Aux Antipodes is racked using the signature handpump that Millet uses in Burgundy. Indigenous yeasts are utilized for top wines, and whites enjoy long aging sur lie. Both the Riesling and the Pinot Gris retain some sugar.
