Summary
This house began in London as a wine merchant, founded by William Offley. It wasn’t until Joseph James Forrester joined the firm in the early 1800s that Offley’s reputation as a Port producer really took off. Forrester, a cartographer, was the first person to chart the entire Douro Valley and contributed significantly to the international growth of the industry, earning him the title of don by the King of Portugal. The house was purchased by Sogrape Vinhos in 1996.
Style & Vinification Techniques
Grapes are hand-harvested and crushed using a robotic lagares treading system. The wines are moved to Offley’s aging lodge in Villa Nova de Gaia for barrel or bottle aging in the springtime, depending on the style of Port.
