Summary

The estate was born out of the need for regulation in the Douro region. The Royal Oporto Wine Company, or Real Campania Velha (wines can have either name on the label), was created to establish boundaries for the Douro region as well as quality control measures to ensure its continued success. That power was eventually removed, but the house still produces Port to this day and remains the second largest single vineyard owner in Douro.

Style & Vinification Techniques

The Tawny Port leans toward a balanced, refined style. The company is still working to overcome the shadow of less promising declared Vintage Ports of the late 20th century.
