Summary

Château Latour à Pomerol derives its name from a tower adjacent to one portion of the vineyard—also the namesake of Château Latour of Pauillac. The eight-hectare estate is non-contiguous, divided into two primary sections and 25 parcels. The oldest and best plots sit on gravelly clay. In the 19th century, the Chambaud family began to assemble Latour à Pomerol in pieces. Lily Lacoste, who also held part ownership of Pétrus, ultimately inherited Latour à Pomerol from her family, before donating it to the foundation Le Foyer de Charité in Châteauneuf-de-Galaure in 2002. The property has been managed by Jean-Pierre Moueix since 1962.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Latour à Pomerol creates a single wine, which some describe as variable—likely due to the lack of a second wine to which fruit could be declassified. Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted optically or manually. Vinification occurs in a combination of stainless steel and temperature-controlled concrete tanks, before aging 16 to 18 months in 40% new French oak.
