Summary

The house was established by León de Argüeso y Argüeso, who moved to Sanlúcar from northern Spain and opened a small grocery store. Two years after his arrival in 1882, he purchased several older soleras (each estimated at 225-250 years old) and a building known as Bodega San José that still used today. León had no direct heirs and the business passed to his nephew and niece Juan and Francisca, the heirs referred to in the full company name: Los 2 herederos de Don León de Argüeso (the two heirs of Argüeso). The company has expanded over the last century, but remains at its original location with an additional modern winery on the edge of the town. They are well known for their Manzanilla wines, and particularly for their flagship Manzanilla, San Léon, and their San Léon Reserva de la Familia, bottled as a Manzanilla pasada.

Style & Vinification Techniques

The house is known for their Manzanillas, which offer tremendous value. The flagship San León Manzanilla is bottled around 6-8 years of age while the Reserva de la Familia is bottled around 10 years of age two times a year. The Reserva is a true Manzanilla passada, sourced from a solera of 44 casks, with two sacas are performed each year – once in spring and once in the fall.
