Summary
The wines of Damien Coquelet are relative “newcomers” to Beaujolais, but Damien has worked alongside his stepfather Georges Descombes since early childhood. He employs the same practices as Georges: organic viticulture, hand-harvesting, native yeasts for fermentation, and little to no sulfur use during vinification. Damien currently rents various parcels in Morgon and Chiroubles that are being converted to organic viticulture. Unlike Georges, Damien does not hold his wines back before release, and he bottles in the spring following the harvest.
Style & Vinification Techniques
Grapes are hand-harvested. Fermentation is traditional semi-carbonic with indigenous yeasts. The grapes are pressed and aged for in barrel before bottling in the spring following harvest.
