Summary

The Clerico family grew grapes and sold them to the local Cantina Sociale Terre del Barolo until 1976, when Domenico decided to try his hand at making wine.  A year later, he purchased a small plot in Bussia, and in subsequent years, continued to accrue new vineyard holdings in Ginestra and Mosconi.  He is a proponent of restricting yields in the vineyard and employs modern philosophies in winemaking.  He is widely respected for combining high quality winemaking with exceptional vineyard sites, resulting in expressive wines with exceptional character. Domenico passed away in July of 2017 from cancer, leaving his widow, Giuliana, to oversee the winery.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Domenico Clerico belongs to a modernist camp of Barolo producers. He uses temperature controlled, stainless steel rotofermenters and ages the wines in predominantly new French barriques.
