Summary
Restaurateur Michael Verlander and entrepreneur Kerry J. Murphy founded Dumol in 1996. The winery began with a small production of 300 cases of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sourced from Dutton Ranch. Current winemaker Andy Smith came on board in 2000 and became an additional partner in the project in 2005. Recently Kerry Murphy purchased the interests of his business partner Michael Verlander. A new winery was completed in 2008 located in Windsor.
Style & Vinification Techniques
Vineyards are managed with sustainable and organic methods. Estate Vineyards have some of the highest planting densities in North America, averaging 3,630 vines per acre. Hand-harvested, vineyard-sorted grapes are slowly whole cluster pressed before barrel fermentation from both native and selected yeast strains. Chardonnay wines undergo 100% malolactic fermentation and 14-15 months of aging in French Oak (30-50% new). Wines are not filtered before release.
