Summary

Sitting on the Via Francigena, an ancient route from Northern Europe to Rome, the estate that is today Fattoria di Rodáno began producing wine in the 16th century. The winery has been in the Pozzesi family for three generations, since Carlo Pozzesi purchased it in 1958. Wine was first made in the early 1960s and sold locally in cask; in 1967, the estate began bottling wine with oversight from Carlo’s son, Vittorio, who brought other important advancements as well. Today, his son Enrico is the managing partner and winemaker.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Enrico Pozzesi says that Sangiovese by itself makes the best Chianti Classico; if given time to age, it does not need Cabernet and Merlot. He uses only large botti barrels for the aging. Vittorio Pozzesi, Enrico’s father, famously said, “The whole world can make Cabernet or Merlot but only we can make Sangiovese. Why change it?”
