Summary

he Frescobaldi family has been producing wine in Tuscany for over 700 years. In addition to the wines produced under the Frescobaldi marquis, this Tuscan powerhouse is made up of a collection of estates spread from Pomino to Carmignano. The crown jewels of the firm include Ornellaia, Masseto, and Castelgiocondo in Montalcino. Remarkably successful, Frescobaldi’s presence is felt throughout each tier of the Tuscan wine industry. As of 2012, all of Frescobaldi’s estates are Agriqualità certified, an award given for the use of ecologically sustainable farming techniques aimed to protect the natural environment. The company is currently overseen by Lamberto Frescobaldi. Though not technically situated on the Tuscan coast, Frescobaldi is included in this list to note the four significant Super Tuscan wines noted below.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Frescobaldi produces a range of wines at various estates that generally gravitate toward an international palate. They incorporate international grape varieties, restrict yields, aim for riper fruit, and do not shy away from the use of new French oak, even with some of their Sangiovese-dominant wines.
