Summary
The Bassermann-Jordan family, a founding member of the VDP, promotes the influence they’ve had on viticulture, politics, science and finance over the past 300 years; they also assert that German cultural icon Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a fan of their wines. Today, Bassermann-Jordan employs three different labels for three different styles of wine: the Coat of Arms label for their wines with residual sugar, the Probus label for dry Rieslings, and the 1811 label for their Burgundy-styled wines.
Style & Vinification Techniques
Although the estate is not certified organic, they practice mostly organic viticulture and do not use any chemical pest control or fertilizer. They use commercial yeasts for their basic varietal wines and ambient yeasts for their site-specific bottlings (what they call their terroir wines).
