Summary

Henri Bonneau is the 12th generation of his family to make wine and is highly regarded for making long-lived, traditional and concentrated wines. His vineyard plantings are devoted to 90% Grenache, with the remaining 10% planted to Mourvèdre, Counoise, Syrah and Vaccarese. The resulting wines are predominantly Grenache-based and are well known for their richness. Henri produces two cuvées, the Marie Beurrier and the Réserve des Celestins. These wines are sometimes declassified into a normal Châteauneuf bottling, and in some cases, where quality does not meet his scrupulously high standards, they are sold off to négociants. Generally, these two cuvées spend a long time in oak barrels and are not released until after four to six years of barrel aging. Bonneau does not produce any white wines.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Considered an “old guard” producer, Henri Bonneau employs whole-cluster fermentation in concrete tanks, followed by aging in neutral barrels of various sizes.
