Summary

Bodegas Hidalgo was founded in 1792 by José Pantaleón Hidalgo and is currently owned by the sixth successive generation. The bodega relies on their own vineyards entirely – 500 acres in Balbaína (Jerez’s closest vineyard to the sea) and Miraflores, the renowned Sanlúcar vineyard.

Hidalgo’s flagship wine,La Gitana Manzanilla („the gypsy“), is the product of a family solera established in the early nineteenth centuryLa Gitana is often considered the standard bearer of Manzanilla, both in Spain and abroad.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Hidalgo is known for their classic Sanlúcar de Barrameda Manzanillas—considered the authoritative style of the region. La Gitana evolved from a Manzanilla Pasada into a much younger, lighter style. The Pasada Pastrana still represents the more traditional style: bottled around 8 to 9 years average age and sourced from a single vineyard. La Gitana En Rama is stylistically in between and bottled twice a year in spring and autumn.
