Summary

Originally from northern Piedmont, the De Marchi family purchased two small estates in Tuscany in the 1950s, combining the Isole and Olena Vineyards to form the current property. The estate experienced a renewal in 1976 when Paolo de Marchi, the fourth generation of winemakers in the family, returned from agriculture school in Turin and harvest experiences in France and California. Among other efforts, he planted single vineyards of international grape varieties. The traditional wines (Chianti, Vin Santo) utilize multiple grape varieties, while the estate’s Super Tuscans are 100% varietal wines.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Paolo de Marchi has implemented a more modern style since taking over the family estate. He employs a rigorous green harvesting program, utilizes international varieties, preemptively left white grapes out of Chianti bottlings before the ban in 2006, and employs new French oak élevage.
