Summary
La Spinetta means “top of the hill” and refers to the location of their first winery in Castagnole Lanze in Asti. It was here they got their start in 1977, making Italy’s first single vineyard Moscato, the Moscato Bricco Quaglia. They eventually made their first red in 1985, the Barbera Cà di Pian. A decade later, in 1995, they debuted their first Barbaresco, Gallina. In 2000, they acquired a property in Grinzane Cavour, making their debut Barolo. The work at La Spinetta is largely dedicated to viticulture, and they state that 90% of their work is in the vineyard and 10% in the cellar. They encourage extremely low yields, and eschew the use of any chemicals or fertilizers. In the cellar, they use modern technologies for their winemaking.
Style & Vinification Techniques
La Spinetta takes scrupulous care of the cellar, using state-of-the-art technology. They ferment in temperature controlled stainless steel. Wines are aged in predominantly new French Barrique with no filtration before bottling.
