Summary
Giuseppe Anania purchased the La Torre property in 1976 from the Ciacci family, who had farmed the property as sharecroppers. Today Giuseppe’s son Luigi runs the estate, which is comprised of 36 hectares yet only 5.6 planted to vine (Giuseppe planted 2.6 ha in 1976, and Luigi planted three more in 1999). Luigi graduated with a degree in agriculture from the University of Florence and describes the estate’s philosophy as “traditional but not conservative” – by which he means he follows traditional practices passed down from the farmers before him while remaining open to experimentation and change in both the cellar and the vineyards.
Style & Vinification Techniques
Grapes are hand-hand harvested and fully de-stemmed before fermenting with indigenous yeasts. Wines are racked three times in the first year after harvest and once annually in subsequent years, following the aging regimens outlined above. Wines are fed to the bottling line by gravity and bottled unfiltered.
