Summary
Marqués de Cáceres is a fairly young bodega in Rioja, but the Forner family has been in the wine business for five generations. With the onset of the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s, the Forners fled and made a life in France. In Bordeaux, they acquired and restored two abandoned châteaux, Château Camensac and Château Larose-Trintaudon, today among the best in the region.
Enrique Forner returned to Spain in 1968 and established Marqués de Cáceres in 1970. The bodega is now run by fifth-generation family member Cristina Forner, who upholds the bodega’s modern style.
Style & Vinification Techniques
Influenced by their time in France, the Forners use a combination of new and used French barriques. The winery works with Michel Rolland, France’s most well-known wine consultant, who is known for his modern, fruit-forward, heavily extracted style.
