Summary

Matervini is the latest project of Santiago Achával, founder and former winemaker of Achával Ferrer, along with fellow winemaker and former Achával Ferrer associate Roberto Cipresso. Matervini, which means “mother of wines,” imposes a Burgundian philosophy onto its Malbec, with a portfolio of single-site monovarietal wines. The first vintage, 2010, was released in 2016. Achával and Cipresso have emphasized sustainability at the young project, installing solar panels to generate heat and electricity at the winery building, and composting all organic waste for vineyard use.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Young- and old-vine plots are vinified separately. The top wines are aged in barrel, with varying percentages being new.
