Summary
Proprietor Anabelle Sielecki, a trained architect and wealthy diplomat, named her Mendoza winery after her late father Mendel, a Polish Jewish refugee who immigrated to Argentina in 1926. To develop the project, Sielecki partnered with Roberto de la Mota, one of Argentina’s most influential winemakers of his generation. Born into a winemaking family—his father Raul earned acclaim as winemaker for Bodega Weinert—Roberto de la Mota achieved recognition while developing the brands Terrazas de los Andes and Cheval des Andes. Sielecki and de la Mota have grown the Mendel brand since its inception in 2004, acquiring three vineyard sites from which the portfolio of estate wines is harvested.
Style & Vinification Techniques
Grapes are harvested by hand and manually sorted. The wine then macerates and ferments in 50- to 80-hectoliter tanks, in which manual punchdowns are performed for three to five weeks. Aging is primarily executed in new French oak barrels.
