  • Prado Enea: 80% Tempranillo, the rest a blend of Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano, from vines grown on a combination of chalky clay and alluvial soils. The vinification process takes place in wooden vats of varying sizes, beginning with large vats during maceration and fermentation. The wine is transferred to smaller vats and aged for three years, with an additional three years in bottle. The wine is filtered with egg whites. Inaugural vintage 1968.
  • Torre Muga: 75% Tempranillo, 15% Mazuelo, 10% Graciano, from vines grown on calcareous clay and alluvial soils. The wine is aged for six months in large wooden vats before aging in new barriques for 18 months, followed by a year in bottle.

Summary

In 1932, Isaac Muga Martinez and his wife, Aurora Cano, established Bodegas Muga, bringing together two winemaking families in hopes of crafting exceptional Rioja wines. In 1969, Isaac passed away, leaving his wife and three children to take over the winery. Today, Bodegas Muga has 250 hectares of vines and its own cooperage on premise.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Bodegas Muga focuses on Rioja varieties such as Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, Mazuelo, Viura, and Malvasia. All wines are fermented and aged in oak, and with the winery’s own cooperage on site, there is a never a shortage of barrels. French and American oak barrels are used during the winemaking process, and the top wines undergo extensive aging.
