Summary

Nicole Chanrion is the seventh generation of a winemaking family in Beaujolais, and she was raised assisting her father in the vineyards and cellar. She was formally trained at the viticultural school in Beaune and worked harvest in Napa Valley during her studies. In 1998, she took over the family domaine, and she became president of the Côte-de-Brouilly appellation in 2000. Nicole works the cellar and farms the 6.5 hectares in Côte-de-Brouilly entirely herself, implementing lutte raisonnée vineyard practices.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Fermentation is entirely full carbonic maceration with indigenous yeasts. Whole clusters are put into 65-hl stainless steel cuves leaving space for carbon dioxide to release from the grapes, forming a natural protective cap over the must. The fruit is removed, pressed, and the juice is put back into the cuves to finish alcoholic fermentation. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for at least nine months in used foudres, then bottled unfiltered.
