Summary

David Ramey founded Ramey Wine cellars with his wife Carla in 1996 after over twenty years of making wine in Sonoma and Napa. He originally graduated from UC Davis in 1979, and shortly after left to Bordeaux to work with the Moeiux family which was followed by Lindeman’s in Australia. David’s first true winemaking job came thereafter as the assistant winemaker for Simi in Healdsburg. Since then his resume has included winemaking at Matanzas Creek after Merry Edwards, as well as helping at Chalk Hill, Dominus Estate, and Rudd.  David continues to manage Ramey Wine Cellars.

Style & Vinification Techniques

David is considered a pioneer in the movement to popularize traditional winemaking techniques such as native yeast fermentation, malolactic fermentation, and fermentation in barrel. His influence brought about a richer, fuller-bodied style of Chardonnay in California. The Chardonnys are bottled without filtration.
