Summary

This is one of the oldest private estates in the village of Piesport, located at the base of the Goldtröpfchen vineyard. It is run today by Karl-Theo Haart who took charge of the estate in 1971. Theo, as he is known, was named winemaker of the year by Gaullt-Millau in 2007. He is joined at the estate by his wife Edith and son Johannes, who is now helping make the wines. They have been a member of the VDP since 1990.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Reinhold Haart works very steep vineyards, where yields are kept below 50 hl/ha and fertilized only organically. Typically, they harvest 14 days before their neighbors. Production rests at approximately 70% sweet wine and 30% dry wine, with a focus on Kabinett and Spätlese wines. They do not allow any botrytis in either–though they do accept it for Auslese prädikat and above. The wines ferment mostly in stainless steel, but some go into 1,000-L fuder. For the most part, Reinhold Haart works with ambient yeast, though in certain circumstances they use cultured yeast.
