Summary

Roger Sabon comes from a long history of family winemakers in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. He is one of three brothers, all of whom started their own domaines in the mid-20th century. (Roger’s two brothers, Joseph and Noël, founded Clos du Mont-Olivet and Domaine Chate Cigale, respectively.) Domaine Roger Sabon is currently in its second generation, under the helm of Roger’s sons, Jean-Jacques and Denis. They have 17 hectares of vineyards, spread throughout 15 different plots and make four different red cuvées as well as one white. Each of the red wines is made from a slightly different cépage and receives a unique élevage.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Roger Sabon is mostly a traditional producer: grapes are de-stemmed, followed by maceration and fermentation in concrete vats. The wines are aged in a combination of foudres, old barrels, demi-muids, and a small percent of new barrels (for the Prestige only).
