Summary
Guillermo Eguren founded Sierra Cantabria in 1957, in the historical winemaking town of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The area is located between the Sierra Cantabria mountain range and the Ebro River, providing a microclimate conducive to viticulture. Both a continental and a Mediterranean climate affect the vineyards, offering warm afternoons ideal for ripening and cool nights that preserve acidity in the grapes. The estate is now carried on by the fourth generation of the Eguren family, Marcos Eguren, who is both winemaker and director.
Style & Vinification Techniques
The Sierra Cantabria estate pays careful attention to the health of their vines, using organic fertilizers and principles. In the winery, the grapes are meticulously sorted and then pressed. Fermentation and malolactic fermentation occur in stainless steel vats or wooden barrels. The wines are racked every four months prior to bottling.
