Summary

Gregorio García Viadero founded Valduero in 1984. All of Valduero’s red wines are 100% Tempranillo, from some of the highest vineyards in the region, situated at over 2,700 feet above sea level. The vines are 12 to 40 years old and produce very low yields.

Style & Vinification Techniques

Bodegas Valduero’s vineyards are planted on clay soils at high elevations. The vines are trained en vaso, a method also known as gobelet, head training, or bush vine. This keeps yields naturally low. Only natural organic fertilizer is used, they never irrigate, and the grapes are harvested by hand and carried in small baskets back to the winery, which is located underground. This underground location ensures a consistent, cool temperature during fermentation, which takes place in a combination of new and old French, American, and Eastern European oak casks. Yolanda García Viadero, Gregorio’s daughter, is the winemaker.
