Summary
Warre’s, the oldest British house in the trade, was founded in 1670 by William Warre and is only surpassed by Kopke in age. Warre’s was also the first to build a Port lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia and to launch a branded Port. A.J. Symington joined the firm in 1905, and the Symington family took full control of the estate in 1960.
Style & Vinification Techniques
Warre’s wines are some of the darkest and most concentrated Ports in the region. Warre’s uses primarily modern winemaking techniques – robotic treading machines in the lagares and piston pump fermenting tanks – although a few wines are still tread by foot.
