Summary

Yves Gangloff built his domaine from scratch with his wife Mathilde, purchasing their first hectare in 1982, then slowly planting and acquiring small plots. Yves got his start working at Delas as a laborer while visiting the Rhône from his native Alsace. They initially sold their wine to the négoce before starting to bottle in 1988 when said négociant went bankrupt. The domaine has owned vines in Saint-Joseph since 2007. Yves’s wife was intimately involved with the running of the domaine, so it was a difficult harvest in 2011 when, at a young age, she passed away shortly before the harvest.

Style & Vinification Techniques

The Gangloff wines are clean and modern in expression. The whites are entirely vinified and aged in 20-33% new oak. The reds are partially de-stemmed (100% de-stemmed for “La Barbarine”), fermented in stainless steel, pumped over without pigeage, and aged in barriques for 23 months: used barriques for “La Barbarine”, 20% new for the Saint-Joseph, and 30-65% new for “La Sereine Noire.” The red wines are not fined or filtered.
