Grand Cru Vineyards of Vougeot (1)

Vineyard Size* Major Producers Notes
Clos de Vougeot 50.59 ha Méo Camuzet, Rebourseau, Grivot, Vougeraie, Faiveley, Jacques Prieur, Anne Gros The Clos de Vougeot is the Côte de Nuits‘ largest Grand Cru vineyard, and it is the largest walled vineyard in the entire Côte d’Or. The vineyard, property of the Cistercian monks of Abbaye de Cîteaux until the French Revolution, took shape between 1109 and 1336, when the monks built a wall enclosing the site.
Origin of Name: The vineyard, like the village, takes its name from the nearby River Vouge. The river’s name, in turn, is derived from the Celtic viduvia, or „forest“.

Premier Cru Vineyards of Vougeot (4)

Vineyard Size** Major Producers Notes
Clos de la Perrière 2.26 ha Bertagna, monopole The domaine only produces a red wine from this vineyard.
Origin of Name: An old quarry was located here – the source of the stones used to build the Château du Clos de Vougeot.

Le Clos Blanc 3.05 ha Domaine de la Vougeraie, monopole The domaine only produces white wine from this vineyard. La Vigne Blanches may also appear referencing this site on a map. However, La Vigne Blanche is not currently used to label wines from this vineyard.
Origin of Name: Although only white grapes are planted in this vineyard, „Blanc“ likely refers to the color of the soil.

Les Crâs 2.99 ha Bertagna
Origin of Name: „Cras“ derives from craie, or „chalk“.

Le Petits Vougeots 3.49 ha Bertagna, Hudelot-Noëllat, Christian Clerget
Origin of Name: The vineyard is named for the „Petite Vouge“, a stream that runs only after long periods of rain.
