Summary
After emigrating to Australia, Johann Fielder planted what is now the Turkey Flat vineyard in 1847. The Schultz family has owned the property since 1865 and tended the original vineyard, one of the oldest in Australia still used for commercial production. The winery is a relative newcomer to the Barossa region, first established in 1990 when current proprietor Christie Schultz and her husband purchased the property in the midst of poor economic times and the vine-pull scheme. In addition to their old-vine Shiraz, the property also boasts Grenache vines that are over ninety years old.
Style & Vinification Techniques
Wines are fermented in traditional open top fermenters after cold maceration for red wines. Secondary fermentation occurs in barrel using a combination of new and used French oak.
