Summary
Current owners Tony and Lita Brady purchased the historic Clare Valley property in 1974 and have kept the original winery – over 100 years old – almost completely intact and unchanged. They make wines with the assistance of consulting Winemaker Stephen George (known for Ashton Hills and Galah Wines). The wines are notoriously hard to obtain and available exclusively to long-time mailing list customers, though extravagantly priced secondary market wines can occasionally be found. The vineyards, planted to Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mataro, Malbec, and Muscat of Alexandria, are dry-farmed and hand-picked, and consist of mostly untrellised bush vines. The ageworthy reds are described by notable Australia wine writer James Halliday as “the iron fist in a velvet glove” and are likely to remain some of Australia’s most elusive cult wines.
Style & Vinification Techniques
Wines are fermented in open top fermenters by indigenous yeasts; all malolactic is carried out in stainless steel tanks.
