Episode 430 – Chateau Palmer and Alter Ego second wines and ageability with Chris Myers
We talk about the original second wine at Chateau Palmer which was called the Generals Reserve and was made up until its last vintage in 1997. In 1998 Chateau Palmer decided to scrap this second wine in order to increase the quality of Palmer. Instead they created another wine called Alter Ego – the younger brother, a more fruit-based style, intended to be drunk younger than Palmer at 10-12 years of age. We discuss this with Chris as to whether or not it is actually a second wine. We also discuss the ageability of the wines with Lorenzo.
