Susan tells us how she became involved when her adopted daughter was first diagnosed. We look at background to the discovery of the disorder and discuss some of the physical changes that can occur in developing babies including a smaller head circumference and brain which can lead to behavioural and mental health problems in childhood and later life. Studies show that around the world at least 1% of the population is affected which equals around 6-7,000 births in the UK. The message from NOFAS is clear: no alcohol, no risk. For more information visit www.nofas-uk.org and the helpline is 020 8458 5951.
