The Jouves family has been settled in Cournou (centre of Cahors vineyard area) for more than 300 years and have been in the wine industry since WW2. They produce 100,000 bottles per year and grow Malbec, Merlot and Tannat. 20 years ago they would blend the three but now they are producing more single varietal Malbec as they have learned how to manage and improve the Malbec. They are slowly removing Merlot grapes and planting more Malbec instead. They keep the Tannat to produce a 100% Tannat sold as a Vin de Pays wine. The family have partnered up with an Argentina Bodega Altos las Hormigos. They wanted to be able to sell original Malbec from France so approached a number of wineries. The Argentine winemaker comes to Cahors to vinify the wine at the winery – the wine is bottled by Domaine du Prince and sold in Argentina as Cahors Malbec. Through the partnership they are learning new techniques in the vineyard and winery from each other.
