Episode 571 – The Uco Valley with Michael Evans
Michael Evans is co-owner of Vines of Mendoza. In this second interview we talk about Mendoza and the Uco Valley. Mendoza is large wine region – Argentina is the 5th largest producer of wines in the world and about 80% is produced in Mendoza. We talk about some of the sub-regions which include more premium, high altitude regions as well as bulk wine producing areas located at lower altitudes.

Michael’s vineyards are located in the Uco Valley, chosen as a premium region, where some of the highest quality wines from Mendoza are produced. The region’s vineyards are situated from 900m up to 1300m but according to Michael the best sites are between 1000 and 1200 metres. We also discuss the issues of frost and hail in Mendoza as well as climate, soils and grapes.
