They are made from white grape varieties but made in a red style, with the juice taking colour from skins and with lots of structure and tannins. These wines were originally made in Georgia many thousands of years ago, when people were drinking ‚wine‘ (only recently, in the last century, have we been distinguishing between white and red wines) and are still being made in eastern Europe and in pockets of Italy and Spain.
