The market has been disrupted in the last couple of years with the growth of discounters Aldi and Lidl. Particularly in wine retail where both stores have come in with a very different proposition to the mainstream supermarkets, with much smaller ranges of different products to select from. In fact, Lidl’s core wine range is only 50-60 lines. However, 4-6 times a year Lidl run a themed Wine Cellar promotion with a limited selection of 20-30 wines. These wines are bought in limited quantities so that when its gone, its gone.
Richard’s role at Lidl involves tasting these Wine Cellar Selection wines, writing tasting notes and scoring them.
