Episode 469 – Mike Wolfenden on Felton Road Pinot Noir and Aged Vines Part 2
We start with the Cornish Point Pinot Noir from 15 year old vines. The site is unique as it is almost completely surrounded by water, on a peninsula at the meeting of two rivers, the Clutha and the Kawarau, leading into Lake Dunstan. It’s much warmer than the other sites and harvesting begins earlier in the season. We talk about the soils, where deep down there are bands of clay and calcium carbonate. Mike tells us what they are looking for when tasting barrel samples and how their sample analysis guides their decisions about the wine.
