Episode 534 – Elgin with Andries Burger from Paul Cluver wines Part 2
For the whites, Paul Cluver grow Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Semillon. The biggest planted variety is Sauvignon Blanc, but unusually they tend to blend in a little Semillon to give more richness and complexity to the wine. However, the most successful and sought after grape variety in the Elgin region itself is Chardonnay. They are also growing Riesling and Gewurtztraminer. For reds, they grow Pinot Noir exclusively, which they find is by far the best grape for the cooler climate of Elgin.
