Episode 579 – Wine Searcher with David Allen
David Allen MW is the wine director at Wine-Searcher which launched 25 years ago. Jancis Robinson MW once described them as the Google for wine: they are basically a search engine for wines, beers and spirits. They have a free app and website www.wine-searcher.com.

The database has over 10 million offers and half a million are matched wines, available from merchants in 114 countries. You can search on the exact wine or by country, price etc and the site will bring back the wines as well as info about wine scores, producers, critics notes and lots of links to other information, such as market prices, food matching.
United States is the biggest in terms of users followed by the UK but they have users all around the world, with growing numbers in China (1.3 million searches a year) and increasingly, India.
They generate revenue from their subscribers (Pro Users) who will get the full list of wines when they search. You can access the site free, without subscribing, but you will see a more limited list in your search results.
