In this second interview, we talk about vineyard management and challenges they’ve faced in the last few years with rising sea temperatures and tropical cyclones in the region. The vineyards are well drained, on steep slopes, and everything is hand harvested (400 tonnes over a 6 week harvest period).
Duncan explains the philosophy behind the Man O‘ War wine range, which is produced from 76 vineyards with different grapes and clones planted, allowing them to experiment and trial new things. They focus on Syrah and Syrah blends as well as Bordeaux grapes Merlot, Cabernet Franc with some Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. For the whites, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Semillon.
They have a ladder of brands starting with their Estate range in the white label and a range of named, flagship wines which are Gravestone Sauvignon Semillon, Exiled Pinot Gris, Dreadnought Syrah, Ironclad Bordeaux blend and Valhalla Chardonnay.
